Do you a hate "OFF"

...or all the deet based products. We do. That stuff makes me gag. I have a 2y/o that's allergic to mosquitoes; they end up looking like spider bites. Well I've found this stuff that works. No I don't work for them, but I'd like to let you outdoors types know about this stuff. It works and it's made in Texas USA! It's kinda pricey but if you buy in bulk it's not that bad. Smells like cedar.

Here's what I bought.

My daughter used to break out in a strange rash with deet based products but she's seemed to outgrow it now.

My father in law swears by Absorbine Jr. The muscle rub stuff.

I've used Skin So Soft by Avon and it works really well. Probably better than the Deet. I used to do some 3D bow shoots in a swampy area where the skeeters were on you so thick that if you ran hand across your shirt they would just smear up your whole shirt. The Skins So Soft worked great to keep them off and even the ones on you wouldn't bite.

I've also been told that wearing a dryer sheet under your hat works quite well.

I try to avoid the Deet with kids.

The skin-so-soft does work good, especially for no-see-ums if you live by the coast. The downside is you feel like a greased pig with all that stuff on your skin.

Part of it is the skeeters can be attracted by the smell of shampoo/conditioner or the fragrance in bar soap. In Canada we used "Fels-Naptha" soap which has no smell, and it helped quite a bit.

Absorbine and vanilla works for Buffalo gnats up here. Which are the worst ever this year!!! Off wont work on these gnats at all. I've never had so many gnats stuck in my eyes, ears, and nose and they bite bad. Also although my name would suggest otherwise I have no opinion on deet.

I use 100 percent DEET. Our bugs eat everything else. Totally overwhelming some sites. Tried it all. Hate DEET. I apply it to my clothes, not my body, if I can help it. I do attract more mosquitoes and no see ums than my hunting buddies or my wife! Not my pics but it's just as bad.

I live in the Murphy lake state game area....Swamp land all around. My daughter and I went hunting earlier in the week and used a Cutters brand of repellent..skeeters just laughed. Dont like DEET but beats being a pint or two low.

I use ULTRATHON it has Deet, but what makes it great is there's a base in it that prevents your skin from absorbing the Deet and also prevents you from sweating it off.
It's the absorbing of Deet that effects children.

I talked with a chemist once and he stated that you'd have to drink a shot glass of Deet to get sick from it, but agreed that small Children react to Deet more so then adults.

I recall a lab test of Skin So Soft by the Smithsonian that showed it worked only slightly better then no insect repellant at all. Yet My Father loved the stuff so i don't know.

Those of You who do not like Deet should look into those Electronic Bug repellers. i use one by William Joseph and it really does keep the Mosquitoes away. Also check out the repellants that use Citronilla as the active ingredient . it's natural and does work well.. besides it just smells nicer then Deet
