Lightbulb Stings --->

Ghost Recon recently posted a venomous Buck Moth caterpillar and it got me Googling . Thought I would re-post my findings...

The hairs are venemous and can sting through clothing. If you get stung, use some really sticky tape (duck/duct tape) to pull whatever stinging hairs you can out. Wash the area well with soap and water. The next part is interesting...

Make a paste out of Lawry's "Adolph's Meat Tenderizer" and apply to the sting. This meat tenderizer has papain in it. This works for bee, jellyfish, wasp, and mosquito stings... or just rub some papaya on it...

PAPAYA!?!?!? Apparently papaya contains an enzyme that breaks down proteins called papain. It has been used for thousands of years in South America as a meat tenderizer and sting remedy. Papain breaks down/neutralizes the insect venom.

Good info there Muddy, thanks for posting this. I meant to reply to this on my thread but forgot all about it. I never thought about tape but that makes good sense, usually have some duc tape or gorilla tape handy. I need to get ahold of some tenderizer now.

My little bro got stung pretty bad by a saddleback caterpillar back in the day this remedy would have been useful.

A few years ago I was digging points and one of those good old big Texas centipedes fell out and bite/stung me on my left forearm. It hurt like hell and I grabbed it and threw it, just my luck it hit a small tree limb lust a few feet away and it bounced back at me and landed on my right forearm. Yeah now I had two places burning. Oh the dangers of artifact hunting.

Yep, been using meat tenderizer for years. Works on scorpion stings too!

I never knew about the tape or the papaya.

Are the moth caterpillars what we call Asps? Man they have a nasty sting to them.

I'll try that tenderizer thing next time. I always thought catepillars and scorpions were a little tough anyway.
