One Beautiful Black Rat Snake....

My other hobby is snake hunting (no kill). I catch them, measure them, photograph them and then release them back into the wild. Kansas is a fantastic place to find snakes; timber rattlesnakes, copperheads, rat snakes, milk snakes, water snakes, brown snakes, etc... I remove snakes from peoples' property for free, rather than having them kill them. I received a call two weeks ago to remove this beautiful black snake from a tree in a woman's backyard. She likely would have taken a shovel to it, but I convinced her that I would catch it and release it elsewhere. Here's a few photographs....

Man it has been a bumper year for black snakes around here, they're everywhere. There's a good sized one under my house taking care of any mouse issues. Black snakes are a great benefit when you live in the sticks.

I like snakes too. I don't play with them but I don't kill them either. Seems anytime someone in the neighborhood finds one they call me. This one was at my wifes work. All the ladies were freakin out, I just laughed. I reminded them, Where there's one black snake there are always TWO.

I do not share ya'lls enthusiasm for snakes, but I will swerve to miss a black snake.

The spiders never bothered me as bad, or at least my conciense. Killed a black widow yesterday at a popular soccer park. It was under a bleacher seat.
