The fun you'll have with your son and your "yak" will be priceless. Good luck hunting and be safe.

Sweet YAK! Jason.
I'm hoping to get one here soon and seriously considering that one.
How do you transport it?

also if you'd like to PM me your address, I'd have a little something for your Yak, I'd like to send ya...nothing special just a cool vinyl sticker.

jason-awesome boat man. love the PIRATE flag. i might be the old man here-i am 41 now! got 4 years on you and GHOST.

but both of you have been hunting longer than me i think. started hunting
artifacts at 35-kayaking at 36. man-floating downstream is like a magic
carpet ride. key to a good float is ELEVATION DROP per mile. if your
elevation drop is less than 2 feet per mile-you PADDLE most of the time and
not much gravel gets exposed. check the elevation drop per mile and
it will help you pick what streams to float. Riffle-Pool streams are faster
and you will see the bottom most of the time instead of silt covering everthing.

awesome photos!

Willy,,Thanks for the comments and the tips! I'll take all the advice I can get,,
I've paid close attention to your comments on other kayak related threads here and put them into consideration when I was searching for a kayak. Your experience and enthusiasm is much appreciated!

I aint far behind you in age bro,, I'll be 38 in a couple weeks, lol and with the dedication/motivation you've shown this year, your collection will grow WAY larger and quicker than the average enthusiast.

So far the only bummer is not having locals to team up for float trips!
I've been having to put in at access points and paddle UP river a mile or two and then smooth sailing on the way down! I know theres points on the bars but w/o another driver, I have serious limitations! The bars I am reaching (that once were clean gravel) have now takin quite the growth of brush and small trees etc..... Good reason to find those Riffle-Pool streams you speak of! Sorry to hear about your freind BTW and I will start takin' more precautions and wearing my life jacket more often! Jason

Great stuff man, nothing better than getting the boat out for some time with the boy! I have been using a small one man canoe for awhile now to facilitate my hunts, it really comes in handy. Spring time is coming, so break that bad boy out again. On a side note, I race every year in the MR340, a 4-day canoe, kayak race from KC to St. Louis and recommend all to give it a try if you are into pushing your limits. One downfall on that race though was several times I have seen great sand bars that I wanted to get out and walk for relics, but couldn't afford to lose time in the race. That was a real dilemma!

I got to get me one with a motor on it. I picked up one the Dec, and like how fast I can get it and out of the water with it not like the boat.

spent some of the winter actually spec my liquid logic manta ray with a battery and a 30 thrust trolling motor. Very east to do with an old style milk crate, short section of 2x4 and a 30 inch shaft trolling motor. It gets you back for when you are pushed to the max
