mountain lion 11/21/11

put my camera on a hunters kill that got away from him, deer was hit low between the front legs , probably suffered for a few hours, was dead 2-3 days when i found it, at the risk of being seen with it and no tags i drug it into some heavy cover and set the trail cam up on it, that was three days ago, went by today with high expectations, that deer was a stinkin three days ago , i knew something would be eating it, ( pics suck ), but i can tell hes a new one i havent seen before, dont know whats going to happen with all these lions living so close to each other, i know of 5 within 30 miles all females this last year two have been killed and two more killed on the roads, all within a 50 mile radius thats alot of cats and by next year that should double , just the ones im counting are alot, i imagine i only see a fraction of whats really out there, seems to me were on the verge of a problem,

yeah ryno lots of small farms , lots of 4h people , everyone has horses chickens and dogs, everyone i talk to from anywhere but here has this perception of san diego lol, normal, but not the reality , we have deserts low lands and alpine mountains, highest peak is over 6000ft ,we have giant state parks and the cleveland national forest, some killer lakes , smallish, but i think 10 of the 20 largest large mouth bass have come out of san diego lakes, i would say at least half of san diego county is above 2000ft, no more bears , the last one was killed in 1975, in our desert counties we have an endangered sub- species of big horn sheep, mountain lions in the last 4 or 5 years have decimated them, only about 250 left, our deer population has also exploded in the last 5 years so those cats are eating good, a few smallish cattle ranches, havent heard of any being killed by lions, occasionally you hear of someone poaching cattle though, everytime there is a cat problem ,they bring in the dogs and it is handled quickly, those hounds are the stuff , fantastic noses, anyway thanks as always for the look ryno

you probably have a few bobby, the land and mother nature have a way of only allowing so many in one area, for us ,unfortunately , five years ago a fire burned a really big piece of san diego county , with a lot of the trees gone what grew back initially was and is deer food, deer population exploded ,lion population exploded, i imagine in the years to come mother nature will step in and things will go back to how they were before, population wise ,and size wise,
