FINALLY found a few....

Me and Eddie went for a walk behind the house and I finally found some mushrooms (15) I was only out for about an hour, headed back for the house because I was worried about crushing them in my backpack which was full to begin with. It's a wonder they made it home without busting up too much. I know what i'm having with dinner tonight. I'll probably head back out for a while, and I'm not going to forget my onion sack and a kid to carry them. It's been a pretty good day!

Nice merkle insitus papa. Morel season started late here in Va. this year. I've found a couple hundred on my last three hunts.

Thanks ghost, me and eddie went out again today we didn't find anymore morels but I found these huge Dryads saddles. I ate those morels last night, sauted them in butter but I think I like them better cooked in oil. Yeah they came in late slow and few and far between for some around here but i heard of a few folks finding a couple bags full. There is a morel hunting contest around here on may 2nd don't know the details just skimmed the flyer hanging on the door at a convienience store. Couple hundred on 3 hunts is pretty darn good I'd be selling them lol. I heard they were going for 30 a lb but that was from a pretty unreliable source lol. Good luck if you go out to look for more.

Are those saddles any good? I've got a log full of those out back, I never knew what they were. I'm seeing alot of 50 - 60 $ per pound for morels on the internet lately, looks like the price has gone up. I know a 4 star restaurant around here that pays 70 for fresh morels. I saw your bundle of ramps in another thread, nice haul. The price on ramps has gone up too, they're in high demand because of their vitamin content and medicinal value. I know a guy in WV who ships them online and can never fill all the orders because the demand is so high. Here's his site.
