Awww, that's cute. When I was young, we set up a 10 gallon tank and bought an eastern mud turtle. That same night in the dark, I could hear digging in the gravel. I thought "wouldn't it be cool if it was laying eggs". Sure enough the next morning there were 3 eggs. We contacted the pet store and learned how to hatch them (cool whip container with a vermiculite soil, eggs, peet moss, air holes, and mosture - kept warm on top of the refrigerator.) They all hatched! They were about the size of a thumbnail.

Yeah i was a turtle freak growing up. I even kissed one when i was real little and it chomped down on my lip and i ran into my house with a turtle hanging from me. Softshells are super fast but this guy was kinda warming up on the bank.

Oh Boy! Being a full-blooded, registered Coonass (that's Cajun, for you folks not-in-the-know) when I see a baby snapping or softshell, all I see is a future turrle sauce piquant. I garantee you, yeh! You did turn it loose so it can get to eatin' size, didn't you?

That's Most interesting. I find that i have reverted to My Childhood days when Point hunting or Fishing in that I do enjoy looking for the wild Creatures and watching them while outdoors... it does cut into my primary activities but it is time well spent.
We have a Planter along side the garage and there are a number of Lizards living in the Plants in it. i enjoy watching them doing their thing... So does my cat..
