Dinnertime
I saw this bald eagle on the way to one of my hunting spots last night. It's the closest I've been to one in the wild. I couldn't tell what it was munching on but it wasn't too worried about me about 40 yards away. Must have been really hungry, or killed something to heavy to fly with. I let him eat in peace and took off after a couple pics.

Very cool photos Ryan. We have a pair that have been spotted around the Ohio River in my area. I was hunting along one of my spots a couple of weeks ago and when I came back up off the bank the guy whose stairs I use asked me if I saw the Eagle and I told him no. He said it landed about 50 feet behind me but he was afraid to yell for fear of scaring it off. He said it stayed there for about 15 minutes and then flew off. Of course I was to busy scouring the ground to worry about what was behind me. lol

We have several nesting here between the Espanola Basin and the Colorado border. Saw a Bald Eagle one morning as I was driving to work through the Rio Grande Gorge. That magnificient predator swooped down to the river and came up with a trout. I almost wrecked my car I was so exited at what I had just witnessed.

I watched one do that about 10 years ago on the Ohio River. I was hunting a large ridge right above the river and I had seen it fly by overhead a couple of times, but it was really high up. I could tell it was an Eagle because you could get a glimpse of the white head when it turned just right. I had just picked up a point and as I was raising up something caught my eye towards the river and just as I looked at the water I saw the Eagle dive in, grab a fish, and then swoop back up into the sky and fly off toward the hills. It was one of the coolest things I had ever saw.

Very cool, I saw one here many moons ago. I couldn't get over how HUGE they are.

Awesome photos, thanks for sharing.
At a spot I used to bank fish on the river, directly across the river was a pair of bald eagles that lived in a huge sycamore tree. I often watched them catching fish or going to and from the nest while I fished. One day I saw one snatch a smaller bird out of mid air on the third attempt. It was an amazing but brief aerial display. I wish I had had a video camera. Last edited by ArkansasRiverBlues; 10-07-2010 at 10:50 AM. |

Thanks, I was bass fishing once and saw one swoop in and pick a good sized perch out of the river. It was quite a sight, and they are huge. The deer are right underneath the eagle in these pictures to give an idea of how big they can get. I'm about 200 yards from that one. I saw one at a fish hatchery standing beside a trough watching trout.
