Hunters Moon

Pictures I took on Saturday of the Hunters Moon!
It was a very pretty one with the clouds around that night.

The Hunter's Moon is so named because plenty of moonlight is ideal for hunters shooting migrating birds in Northern Europe. The name is also said to have been used by Native Americans as they tracked and killed their prey by autumn moonlight, stockpiling food for the winters ahead. Joyce

Thanks Kent, I'm happy you stopped to look at them. The Hunters Moon was extra pretty that night. Joyce

I heard it called Comanche Moon when I lived in TX because that is when they would ride down and do a little settler raiding.

Thanks guys! I enjoy taking pictures of full Moons, and I agree it does have kind of a spooky Halloween look to it.
Hi joe, I think I have heard it called the Comanche Moon also, maybe I read that on Wikipedia. Thanks again to you all for your nice comments! joyce

Yes the Texas Indian raided extremely bad on full moon nights! In the Republic days settlers would board up homes and put away livestock well before dark! Many a settler was killed on full moons, it was a scary times for our first Texans! Usually they could here. Fake hoot owls with coughs, a tale tell sign of Indians settin up for a massacre! Watch "The Searchers" with John Wayne!

Hi Cluton, and thanks for the comment!
after reading "Empire Of The Summer Moon" and the raids on Victoria, Linnville. Matagorda Bay, Texas, lead by Buffalo Hump of the Comanches, Can only imagine the fear the people in Texas had when the Moon was full and they heard hooting owls being real or not. "The Searchers" with John Wayne...I will have to check that one out, don't think I've seen it. Joyce
