An Unusually Large Coyote Killed in Missouri
I often see coyotes in Kansas and Missouri, especially while camping. Here's an interesting article about an unusually large coyote that was killed by a deer hunter in Missouri in November. I also posted this article under recent finds pertaining to a thread about large tracks found while arrowhead hunting in Missouri.

Hmmm....looks like maybe the lab work was messed up. They should re-do the testing on this one. Looks wolf to me.

I share a honey hole with a big coyote. I have even taken insitus with points inches from his tracks. If I get out a dawn I usually see her, or him, and he is moving on his way.(its almost like a good luck charm) I know a lot of my buddies shoot them year around if they see them..I guess there is not room for the coyote in my parts... Its the same with Bob cats..... Dont know???

The Coyote
And, here's one of my Coyote poems to go along with the thread. Enjoy.
The Coyote By Steven K. Nagle Symbol of the Old West, from days of wagon trains, The coyote ever-present, thriving on the plains. Outlasted cowboy round-ups, traps and archer’s bow, Despite the real dangers, their bands intensely grow. Seek cover in dugout burrows; fallen, hollow trees, Elude the hunters’ rifles, escape the winter freeze. Coats of dusty gray, accents of reddish brown, Ears prick up to listen, catch near and distant sound. Barks and howls are ghostly, echo in darkest night, Endless search for prey, hunt ‘til morning light. The prairie wolf pack gathers, preparing an attack, To down a lonesome whitetail, survival of the pack. Nuisance to the rancher, a threat to grazing stock, Farmers’ sheep are wary, no safety in the flock. Defying a wicked image, always on patrol, Preserving nature’s balance, the coyote’s vital role. |

We have big ones here where someone let a Great Dane loose and it started breeding with the coyotes.

I like that Kansas!
Funny true story for my area: A few years ago a snow boarder hopped over the No Skiing or Boarding boundry sign and immediately got lost. He spent 2 nights before being found unharmed. He was lucky he had a daypack with survival stuff. He was interviewed by a Los Angeles news crew and asked what his biggest fear was: "I didn't sleep at all because I was afraid that the wolves would attack and eat me". He expounded on his experience as an avid outdoorsman as the reason he survived. He was also arrested for trespassing and knowingly going into a closed area. I'd also assume he got a hefty bill in the mail for the search and rescue mission. Gee, at least he wasn't killed and eaten by wolves.

Not sure if these are dog or coyote or wolf, but they made me get a little more attentive.

Looks like a Wolf to me also. Coyotes have big ears, and Wolves ears are smaller.....the ears on this one looks more like Wolf, and the color is more the color of a Wolf, but if the test came back Coyote, well guess you have to believe them....
