Ouch, that'll sting your pocket book. I am a bit confused though... It looks like the auction house new it was a fake and still auctioned it off. I hope I miss read it... Thanks for the link, Raymond

I think the Institute who bought it determined that.

It's a cool piece but even if it was real I can't imagine it going for 4 million. That's sick.

The gallery, Drouot Richelieu, disclosed the opinion of the Mexican goverment. The collection is well know and generally thought to be good.

This piece has been pictured many times and stands about 5 feet tall.

Here's some terrible pictures of pieces i bought while traveling in Mexico about 20 years ago....most of these are stamped INAH institute National Archaeological Historical. I think i paid like $20-35 american dollars each for them back then. They are not old, but pretty cool conversation pieces.

I would have to see some other experts opinion on this. It is to the benefit of the country to say any item sold on the open market is fake. Plays hell on the collectors market.
