I guess every June they have to bring up the same story like it just happened.
NGM Blog Central - Mammoth Art in America, or Mammoth Fraud? - National Geographic Magazine - NGM.com
No real reason to believe it is fake.
Wish I found it...

OK there is one reason to believe it might be fake:
From:
Prehistoric Vero Beach carving may be Americas' oldest artwork - so what's its price?

"Richard Hulbert, a paleontologist at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, said the team of researchers discussed trying to raise money to buy Kennedy's artifact, but his asking price was just too high. Kennedy wanted at least $1 million, he said."

The skill in the engraving personally makes me doubt the piece. It looks like it was done by a trained artist, not the typical two dimensional cartoonish or stick figureesque drawings that one usually associates with native american artwork.

Because it's valuable as all get out and he wants what he can get for it? WTF ?

The skill in the engraving personally makes me doubt the piece.

This is not the First Mammoth Carving in a ancient Bone found in the Americas.. The first one was found in central Mexico back in the late 1950's... And it is much older...

Valsequillos's Lost Horizons

But this find is Just as eye opening and helps with the older Carved Bone from mexico...

I was merely pointing out the fact that he was asking a million dollars for it. I was not previously aware of that. Seems to me that MIGHT possibly be something that MIGHT motivate someone unscrupulous to forge something. Would that not be the first time? Greed in the modern day will always cast a shadow of doubt. How would you expect people to react?

I didn't say I thought it was fake.
WTF back at ya'

I can certainly see the Concern about a possible forgery.. There are ways to check it, under a high powered microscope, to assure the artwork was carved into the bone, when the Bone was green & fresh..
But I'd side with Mojave's well founded concern about the possibility of it being forged..

WTF for everyone.....
