Why do they make oil based paintballs?

You think they would have sent him up the river for defacing the Alamo with grafitti ?

I do.

At least I hope they would.

While he is serving his sentence out they need to make him read all about Indian cultures, artifacts and the past so maybe he will have a better understanding as to what he done.
Sounds like he received a pretty fair punishment to me. He is 21 years old he should have known better as for the little kids they have an excuse.

Nope, not excessive at all. It bothers me that we'll have to feed him for 15 months, but intentionally damaging something like that just for giggles deserves punishment.

Big Fine? Yes. Maybe up to $50,000.00 just to hammer the point home. 15 Months in a human cesspool, I don't think so. Jail would be justified as far as I'm concerned but prison should be reserved for violent scum IMO. You know that AGPRA was just waiting for this as they can't seem to successfully prosecute anyone for surface-collecting arrowheads. Stupid and thoughtless decision that will certainly haunt this young man for the rest of his life.

And a Federal offense on his record. I'm all for justice and can see some punishment that stings, but Federal prison? The damage to the rocks is not permanent, but the damage to this kids life will be.

Like the old saying goes, "If you can't do the time, then don't do the crime"

I think he got just what was coming to him.

They defaced a sacred place. But community service such as spending every weekend for the next couple of years picking up trash in that area would have been just punishment.

I'm guessing he didn't have a lawyer. I would think a decent lawyer could have made this crime a misdemeanor. 100 hours of communtiy service with probation would seem more realistic and reasonable imo. Maybe a prior record played a role. Maybe the judge was Native American, lol....

I have heard of much worse crimes get less sentencing or a slap on the wrist...

Well,, if the paintballs are oil based as Massac mentions, well,, that's a different story and def deserves a harsher sentence....
