Arresting folks like that is just plain stupid.

You can't even pick anything up at Whitney when the Lake is full!! The Corps has been watching that lake like hawks for years. These people are frankly stupid.

My bad for describing them as "looting" actually. The article so described it and of course the media helps shape the public perception of any news. So busted for collecting is how most collectors would see it. Probably not too bright but too tempting to resist trying for some.

It's the law that is stupid.
You run surface hunters off the lakes and they will be digging "legally" on undisturbed pristine sites that are on private property; with the land owners permission.
People were not harassed while surface hunting when the water level was up and the state employee's made "revenue" off all the boating and fishing activity's on the Texas Lakes.

I hate being called a Looter or stupid because I "rescue" arrowheads that have no archaeological value from the shores of lakes and rivers.

Let's all hope they pass Indy's surface arrowhead hunting bill into law soon are there will be no sites left for students of archeology to excavate.

I agree Mark, this stuff being exposed by the drought has no archaeological value. These sites have been corrupted by water action over the years and the artifacts are completely out of context. Makes no sense that someone should get busted for picking up these exposed pieces. Just another example of out of control government regulations!

I will say though, the guys that get out there with heavy duty equipment, huge scooping shovels, and 5 square foot screens make it difficult for me to make my case!

On Lake Whitney I am sure one of the people that have been arrested was my ex-adopted brother. I don't have anything to do with him at all and haven't in the last 18 years. He is a crack head and the one that gives arrowhead hunters a bad name. He would dig up my grandmothers grave if she had a point with her just so he could go sell it for a rock of another kind. He has already been caught digging on the government land at Whitney and he would be the first to jump a fence. Worthless P.O.S..
