"All the defendants had to forfeit their artifacts collections, regardless of how they came to possess them."

Why?

If you steal a loaf of bread, they don't come to your house and take all the food in your kitchen...( not the best analogy but shouldn't the burden to prove the artifacts were obtained illegally be on the prosecution?)

I really have to say that sometimes, (most of the time), I have opinions on lots of things nowadays, but keep them to myself at the risk of being "politically incorrect". That is truly "not me" but a result of what this world (country) has become. Just my two cents.

What a waste of lives and tax dollars. I bet the site is still an asbestos dump... Fire proofed and preserved for future generations .

unless I read this wrong, none of this would have ever happened without the placement of the govts informant and at the informants suggestion to dig it. sting or entrapment. it cost people in the ultimate way. horrible waste!!!

Exactly.

The man-hours and tremendous cost should have been
directed towards the REAL problems this country has.

Certainly not the first time our government has over reacted and needlessly spent more than necessary...... And won't be the last.
