Undersea Cave Yields One of Oldest Skeletons in Americas

Dating to a time when the now lush region was a near desert, the "Young Man of Chan Hol" may help uncover how the first Americans arrived—and who they were.

Jay----good read . Very interesting point in the comments section ; a diver who has apparently been in the cave and observed the bones , mentions that two pots or bowls were also found there . Along with other items associated with this site , and they were not mentioned or alluded to in any way----hummmm just another " pro " wanting credit from academia , without raising the interest of all us " pot-hunters " !

Like can you see Texas Digger , Clayton or Arkie George swimming any distance under-water thru sharks and falling stalactites and stalagmites , sea snakes and jagged and empty discarded Cerveza bottles to raid a scared burial ground ? ( GLooney doesn't even bath or shower at home )

Several months ago there was an article concerning an organized , professional dig -site on Cypress Creek in the north Houston/Harris Co. area . In the article , which did not give an exact location , a picture of a beat-up Gary point was shown . It failed to mention the " other " significant artifacts found . ( Scottsbluff and Clovis ) I'm sure to keep the " pot-hunters " and gawkers away . Yeah right ----The locales could have given the exact location of hundreds of sites on Cypress Creek and shown them examples of everything from Clovis to Cataloula to Gorgets to Clay figurines .

Yes AND I am aware of the damage unscrupulous " hunters " can do .

I suppose I am just as guilty of lumping all of the " pros " together as unreasonable , as the pros are in lumping all collectors in an undesirable classification ---looters . The fact will remain----neither group ain't goin' away . db

Great article - thanks for sharing. I was by Cancun not that long ago and wish I'd known about this. Of course, I can't dive so what does it matter.
