Very interesting story to read again. I wonder why those in the last pic don't seem to match those in the first pic, though. Maybe just the pics.

Great story, thanks for sharing it. Those old-time collectors really cleaned Arkansas out. It was like the gold rush down here during the depression. Too many priceless artifacts got shipped to museums up north where they remain buried in boxes if they haven't been stolen or lost. They ought to repatriate it just as if it were plundered from another country, except that this state could not afford to display or curate it either.

Looking at the pictures who in their right mind would stand the blades up like that against a car.I could just see me doing that and one would fall and brake every one of them. That picture just makes my hair stand up thinking about it.I guess back in the day it was like no big deal to go out and dig up some big blades.

Look at the inside of the guy's hat, how it looks so long oval with the pic stretched. And it made the blades look longer as well. That's why the pic of them on the bottom looks different too.

This photo is from the book Some Aboriginal Sites on the Red River, Clarence Moore. You may be familiar with his books. They were published in the early 1900's. There are some modern reprints. The Caddo blade in this plate is 14 1/2 inches long and around 1/4 inch thick. The Foster site was in Lafayette CO AR. I believe the river washed it away as well as the Friday site nearby. The relics Moore collected there went to the Peabody Museum, and I think all have been repatriated.
