All this rain we're getting, I'm thinking it will be a good year for morels. I can't wait to cook and eat a few batches. I'm always looking for shrooms, seng, and sheds in the spring before the woods are too grown up to see anything.

I look for sheds but have only found a few. City boys don't get them often... I hang them on my fence and we watch the squirrels tear them up. Until they are down to the screw, even tines I drill and put them up. City squirrels don't have the proper bitage since there are few skeletons and such for them to chew on and also get minerals. Mama squirrels particularly chew bone and I've had to resort to pieces of turtle shell, LOL, when the antlers chewed out. I know they are just squirrels, LOL, but fun to watch.

Morels, ginseng, and antlers? LMAO! You just described the next couple of months for me! Morels are short lived though, ginseng is tought to find in these parts and has a limited season as well, antlers.. well, they are fun to hunt, but arrowheads will end up taking the cake for most people I think. So darned addictive.
tomclark, I wouldn't be feeding all those antlers away like that... maybe the little ones but have you ever seen what a nice matching pair can bring in? Serious $$$. Even smaller stuff brings a fair price online for people who do crafts and what not.

I hunt Morels big time until the season is over. I prepare them with a breading and then freeze for eating in the winter. Nothing like having a mess of them in January. Enjoy Hunting sheds also, I have a couple that are really nice. Joyce

I used to dig a lot of ginseng but it's getting tougher to find around here. I usually find a lot of mushrooms but last year was a down year for me with only 300-400 total. My dad and I are also big time shed collectors. We found 52 last year, but haven't found but about 11 this year so far. There are a lot of bucks still carrying full racks around here.
