Lever actions rifles

Besides artifacts I collect.... well..... about everything...lol You name it about any "mantiques". From oil gun oil cans, old ammo, recurve bows & arrows, coins, antique fishing tackle & rod N reels.. ect ect. Here is one of the best lever actions I own, it's an 1873 Winchester made in 1881 in 44-40. Note the bright case color on the buttplate. Sweet rifle for 130 years old.
Anyone else like lever guns?

Paleoman

OH and bonsai trees.... anyone need some bonsai's?

I've got a (1876) first model '73. 30", 44-40 with set trigger. Not nearly as nice as yours though.

Oh man you must have a thumb print dust cover, and a 30" with a set trigger is wicked! Even a POS first model 73 is way $$$ as I'm sure you know. What cal. is the 76? I have 2 other 73's, a carbine 44-40 made in 1892 and another rifle made in 1909 in 38-40. The carbine has been very very carried use but not abused and that's ok with me, hasn't been messed with at all. The other rifle is nothing like this one but decent probably around 65-70% and really really shoots well. Love shooting those old rifles just wish they could tell there storys.
Hope some other post some pic's of there favorite lever guns!

Paleoman the 1876 date was referring to the year of manufacture of my '73. In shooting it I was disappointed. Not much "punch" to the old thing and the rifling is a bit worn, but a classic none the less.

Love the old Winchesters. Model 12's are my thing though. Have a 20 ga, 16, and a few 12 ga's. The oldest being made circa 1918. Haven't found a good 28ga. Love the 410 (model 42) but still waiting on that one also. The custom rifles are probably better these days than the old ones, but I don't think you can beat the old Winchester lever rifles and pump shotguns.

Silver gotcha on the 76 date, is it the thumb print dust cover? As far as shooting you might want to "fire lap" the barrel. I did my 38-40 and made a great difference, will hold about a 3''-4'' group at 100yrds. Now to a bench rest guy a 4" group would be grounds to wrap the rifle around a tree but for a sloppy old 73 that's not bad. Do have a vernier tang sight and beech front sight which really help.

Anyone know of some good sites to buy Curio and Relic firearms??
I'm waiting for my license now...... would like to get an old pistol and an old rifle. Protection, range and plinking. Not interested in new firearms and don't want to spend a dollar a shot, either. A few years ago some friends of mine bought some antique C&R military rifles, like russian Moisin-Nagants from online dealers and they were in great condition, work fine and were very cheap, less than 200 bucks. Aren't there surplus or warehouse firearm places where the stuff is packed in grease, LOL????? Yes, I've googled it but would rather have a personal referral instead of online hype.

This reminds me of many years ago you could buy old military jeeps that had been disassembled and packed in grease, quite cheaply. Don't think you could buy a HumVee like that these days!
