Anyone know anything about Butterflies?
I buy alot of artifacts off this friend of my uncle and today he brought me the arrowhead on the right and the frame of butterflies but I know nothing about the butterflies except they are cool looking . Any opinions or info on them would be much appreciated.

I don't recognize any of the butterflies- they may be from more southern regions of the world. If you decide to sell that frame, please let me know as my wife collects them.

Just my opinion but if someone put them together in a frame then probably they came from the same general location. I an't no bugologist but I'd say that they are probably from central or south america and not some even more exotic local. A few that have the long drooping lobes on the lower pair of wings remind me of yellow swalow-tails I see around my neck of the woods (Ill.), poss. they are from the same geneous? Don't know if that helps but it might be a place to start?

well
obviously nobody knows anything about them. No they are NOT local. I was hoping there was a butterfly specialist somewhere on the forum but I guess not. I will just try and research them online like I do everything else. All of these butterflies are IMPORTS Butterfly pinning is a hobby which takes alot of work when you buy a butterfly they come with thier wings closed and there is a huge process of relaxing the wings and pinning them so that they can be displayed anyway I will post more if and when i find out more

You can find mail order companies that sell exotic insects, butterflies and moths mounted. Many of them are farm raised. I bet those are from all over the world, not just one single continent.
Here is one such site that sells butterflies. I got some things from them in the past. Butterflies, moths, beetles and insect specimens for collections and for sale |
