Gun Flints
Mostly English and French made, found in Va. and Wv. There are a few made from materials local to where they were found. Hard to say if those were made by early settlers or natives. Feel free to post yours.

They seem to come in two sizes, the smaller ones in the center were for flintlock pistols, the larger ones were used for firing rifles. Thanks.

Gun flints were used in the 1800's with flintlock rifles and pistols. A steel firing pin / hammer would strike the flint producing a spark to ignite the powder and fire a round. Most of the gun flints in the U.S. were imported from England and France, but later the native americans and settlers adapted and made their own from local flint and chert sources. The dark black or grey colored flints are from England, and the amber or honey colored flints are from France. Here's a page I found at link. Gun Flints
