White man artifact

Here is something i found many years ago as kid hiking in some local hills. My neighbor was an old man who kinda became like family and he taught me much of what I know on hunting, anyway he would sometimes tell me that rockpiles were often markers of some old-timers claims or property and they would sometimes keep a copy of the deed in a container in the pile or attached to a post in the pile. Well later on I walked upon a pile and started to move the rocks around and spotted an old tobacco tin. I shook it and there was something in it. When home I opened it and found this old claim deed. I believe its dated february 28 1912, but the year is a little fuzzy, but its around that time. I was shocked that the paper had survived that intact from nearly 100 years in the elements encased in a rusty can. If any of you have more knowledge on this kind of thing Let me know

I have come across a bunch of those but never one that old. The oldest readable one I have come across was from the 30's. That's a neat find.

I have messed around with many different old Paper items over the years. I may be able to help but at this time I am on a device that I can not make out what it says across the top of the document. Just need to know the State and what it says across the top to get started. I enjoy researching these cool old paper items and love the history behind them. I will be back at the computer in the morning in case you don't see this tonite and will be abe to read the title then. ********EDITED TO ADD: I figured a way to enlarge the pic and have to say I have never heard of a Notice of Location of Quartz Claim. Better go now and see what I can find out.********

This is related to gold mining. Is this document from Oregon? If so what county? Are there any companies names listed? Gold and Quartz are found together and this looks like an official claim of this particular location of quartz vein that they hoped also had gold in there as frequently seen. Are their any specifics to location of the claim? Southern Oregon has a rich history of gold mining. Since I am a coin dealer I find this document very cool.

This page explains claims on federal lands a little better.
