I know this pic is poor quality but the best I can do right now. Civil War buckle from the Battle of Helena AR.

Looks very similar.

I agree. The buttons i found say scoville & co. 1840-1850's. A dime and penny dated to 1860's. I still wonder how it got into south Texas?

I'm not sure what it is made of but assume brass. It was never cleaned other than removing dirt. Another family member has it now so no way to verify.

Wow, Caveman, what a score on that stuff! All from one "camp"??? My area of FL didn't see much Civil War action AND it's all paved over...... Not much in my area before 1880 and very little of that, too.

Federal oval belt buckle, regulation 1839, US, arrow hooks, small size, pattern 519. Buckle depicts "US", and was used by the Federal army as well as the states. Buckle is oval following the Federal Regulation of 1839, and was designed to secure a belt fitted over a soldier's jacket, used to carry his cartridge and cap box, along with any other items carried on a belt, most of the small sized plates were manufactured in the 1840's and 1850's, the large size came later. Brass plate is stamped on thin sheet brass, solder filled. Ref: O'Donnell & Campbell, Plate 519.
