Clovis casts
I recently won a couple of eBay auctions for some casts made by Pete Bostrom, I'm always amazed at the quality of his work. I've collected casts for a while and if you've never handled one it's amazing the level of detail that comes out. Aside from lifting up the relic and feeling the weight and temp difference vs lithic material, you can't really tell the difference by sight. You can really look at flaking patters, feel edge grinding, get a feel for overall size/thinness, etc. Short of spending a couple hundred thousand dollars buying the best ones in private hands and going to grad school to get to handle some of the pieces in a museum, casts are one of the best ways to handle rare examples of ancient relics.
There are other guys out there who make great casts, but Pete's got the coolest website to go with them. Stone Age Artifacts of the World $500K worth of paleo, or a couple hundred dollars in casts. ![]() The biggest of the Wenatchee cache, one of the best St. Louis Style Clovis knives, and one the red one from the Fenn Cache

Hi Joshua... I agree... He makes outstanding casts and I'm proud to own a batch of them... Another great caster is Jim Chase, out of Colorado and Fort worth... His casts are very similar to Bostroms... Jim does a great job on multi-color points as well... I don't have any experience with Bostrom on multi-color... Here are a few of chases casts... the shouldered clovis on the left is just over 6" long... he does well with KRF, as well... The yellowish clovis is the NSR Butterscotch - Ex Kenneth Bush... The Hell Gap is the Barton HellGap from Colorado - EX David Barton... Jim did a great job on both... The point left of the Hell Gap is the Barton Pelican Lake from Wyoming - Ex Me (see my avatar)... The reflectivity of the KRF pieces didn't work out well in this pic, but they are very nice looking pieces...

Joshua, those are awesome! Nice to have hands-on study peices like that plus you could put them in a frame on the wall at the office, etc and not have to worry near as much about them getting stolen!
Man, that Wenatchee Clovis is somethin' else!!! |

I have had the pleasure of seeing some this cache in person. Part is in a little museum in the town of Wenatchee and the big ones are on display at the Burke Museum at the University of Washington in Seattle. They are amazing!!!! FI only they would allow us to thumb them just for a few minutes. OHHHH what a dream that would be!

Kevin,
As understand it, the real points haven't been on display in a while, you saw casts made by Pete. Joshua |
