Unique Civil War 'Artifact'

Not sure where best to post this but I did want to share and since there are several Civil War Collectors in this thread, I thought it most appropriate.

This is a tree that was salvaged from a Civil War battlefield in Tennessee. I didn't count but am told there are 72 pieces of lead in this this thing. I don't see how it wasn't completely obliterated with all of the metal blowing through this thing. It is amazing to see and I can't imagine being on one of those battlefields during war time. There is another piece similar to this in the Smithsonian.

Amazing and wonderful that it was salvaged. So much destruction in so many ways. Thank you for the photos.

They say at Shiloh that there was a cornfield the men fought over all day. When it was over, all the corn still standing had been sheared off at waist level by bullets - Sherman also said that you could walk across the 5 acre field in any direction, stepping from body to body, and never have your feet touch the ground. Incredible carnage.

That is so cool. Are there more than 2 cannonballs embedded in it?

A piece of tangible history at it's finest.

I think that is one of the COOLEST Civil War artifacts I have ever seen. You really have a great piece of American History there. I have always wanted to find a battlefield site and do a little metal detecting I would love to find some mini balls or belt buckles. Thanks for the show.
