Recent Petrified Finds Thread

Seems that I'm not the only one that collects petrified wood, palm, or amber around here. Well now we have a place to show off our latest finds.
Hunting for pet and tuning in to that grain is a great way to train your eyes for head hunting. Also gives you something else to take home so getting skunked doesn't sting so bad.
Thanks to another member(you know who you are) for suggesting this thread.

Here's my latest score from Monday's River run:

Awesome! Thats alot for a river run,,,I'm just now startin' to collect this stuff so I don't have alot. I agree, these finds are way better than a skunk!

I mentioned this elsewhere, but will mention it again here,,,After walking about two miles in the thicket and underbrush to reach the river, I was discouraged to find the gravel bar walked to smithereens. I decided to hunt it anyway since I done battled my way to the spot.

Besides a flake tool, I was pleased with my haul of petrified wood, and can't wait to get back to the river and find some more!

Here's a few pieces of Palmwood and Petrified Wood I have that Mark Adams sent me. These are just the best pieces that I trayed up for display. I love these materials and wish we found them around here.

Here's my petrified finds from yesterday's "morning till lunch" River trip.
All that work that we've been putting in to the boat to get it ready for the annual 4 day Mardi Gras River Run has paid off. Boat is running cherry.
Glad I got to go because today it's flooded over bigtime.
36 pieces and 3 pieces of amber. One piece of sap is my biggest find to date.
That tree must have been oozing!

Petrified Tree

Where I'm at I had heard about a petrified tree still standing. I was curious so I continued hiking farther than I had before and after another mile or so ... there was. It is a standing log really, no branches and 10 feet high give or take. I told my Dad about it and he said our area used to have many but they were all hauled off. I'll find some pictures if you want.

You better believe it! I'd love to see it. And more of the story behind the discovery.
I bet you were stoked when you finally found it.

Here are a few pics of some good hauls that I found:

The pile to the left(47 pieces) was two solid 8 hour days of beach combing only beaches accessible by vehicle.
The pile on the right(58) was 4 hours of beach combing(5 hours of paddling) on beaches accessible by canoe.

Here is my second best one run haul next only to the 2011 Mardi Gras River Run in which I scored 167 pieces.
I don't have a pic, but I plan to beat it this year...Can't wait!

2nd best haul with a point in the middle:

Petrified Tree

You have some very nice pieces! Thanks for sharing them. I don't have any photos on my computer so I'll look this weekend. I think I have them on a dvd. I'll post them as soon as I find them. Yes it was amazing to see it. Even though I had heard of it I couldn't really believe my eyes. It is on a state park and although it is not accessible without a long hike I think they keep it quiet so it is not vandalized or whatever. I even told a recently retired game warden and he had never heard of it. So I think they keep it quiet.
