Still diggin...
for bottles, not artifacts. This nice San Francisco whiskey fifth came out of a tiny and shallow privy on Friday afternoon. I stopped at a long vacant lot, here in town, and actually probed this little pit in about two minutes. Just a lucky hit, the entire hole was only 2'X2 1/2'X2'. There was actually a bunch of busted up stuff in it, but only two complete and undamaged bottles, a local pharmacy and this whiskey. Usually, these are the ones that are busted, but, thankfully, not this time.

This is a fairly common applied top whiskey from the 1880s. The embossing reads, Wolter's Bros/& Co/115 AND 117/Front St./SF. Their brand was "Horseshoe Bourbon" and it was popular with miners and lumbermen. The value in today's market is around $500 +/-.
