Bottle Cleaning
I recently came across alot of old bottles and jars, and was wondering what is the best way to clean the dirt and much down inside them. I'm yet to find a bottle brush that can fit in them. Thanks!

Do you have a Harbor Freight store near you? They sell a package of different brushes that work well for cleaning the inside of bottles. Otherwise, some folks use rice and cold soapy water.

Soak them in Oxy clean. I homebrew and that's how I clean my beer bottles. Let them soak for about four days, it works well.

I made some bottle brushes out of pipe cleaners that worked pretty well.

real fine sand does a pretty good job. Have to do a little shaking with the sand.

I have used a wooden dowell and steel wool with a cordless drill and lots of soap. Ray

I always used bb's. toss a handful in with soapy water and shake, works like a charm and you can get the bottle clean in just a minute or two with no swearing. Wouldn't do it on something REALLY old or fragile I guess...

Best way I know of.
My uncle digs bottles and antiques in the local old dump. He used a 5 gallon bucket and made a simple tumbler and uses silica sand, and his bottles shine up nice. And it usually wont affect paint or anything as long as you dont leave it in too long.
