Bottles and such
The other day I was out rambling about the woods as usual and came across an old dump site. There was a lot of surface finds and several that I dug down to find. The most curious though was 14 large seashells all half buried and some fully buried around a tree. They appear to be the real thing. I posted a pic of a couple of them. There really is alot of cool stuff. An old mountain dew bottle, a crush bottle from the 1920's a couple of horse medicine bottles. I'm considering going back this week to unearth some more!

There's a few older pieces there, but most look like they are from the 1950s-60s, maybe as late as the 1970s.

Hey Headhunter, I don't consider myself a bottle collector, but since I started looking for artifacts along the river I see TONS of glass. I've started keeping whole or nearly whole bottles that I find. I found one like one in your picture and was wondering if you know what it is.
In the first two pictures of yours, front right corner of the table is the shorter white jar between the blue jar and taller white jar. Do you think it could be an old Carmex jar? The one I found is about 1 1/4" tall and 1 3/4" in diameter. As you can see in the pics, the lid is still there but pretty crusty. Also, there aren't any markings on the bottom. Thanks for any info you have. |

It's a vintage milk glass jar for cosmetics. I don't collect them myself but they are pretty common in 1950's-60's dumps. I see a "D-patent" coke bottle in the group shot. It's probably from the 50's and is also collectible.

Always check those. I know a feller that found 5 gold coins in a jar just like that while dump digging.
. I found an old gold pocket watch in a tobacco can that had been discarded.

There is an old railroad line near me that has been converted to a bike path that has hundreds of those glass insulators still mounted up on the poles. There is a 20 mile stretch where you can find whole ones a broken ones still threaded onto their wooden pegs. One of the fields that I hunt arrowheads in has broken insulator pieces right next to the bike path. Someone could make quite a bit of money if they got permission to gather all of them up.

Unfortunately there are many thousands of common insulators with little or no value. SH
