Huge Chancay Urn

I just added this to my collection and thought I would share, 18" tall, it's a monster sized Chancay urn, needs a little work but I picked it up at the right price, investment piece I tell the wife. LOL

Isn't that the coolest thing!?! I'm so freaking happy with it you wouldn't believe it. I am going to start the restoration tonight. It's broken in three pieces.

Should I plaster and paint the cracks, just plaster them and leave 'em white, or not mess with any of it and just glue it?

From the pic, it really doesn't look like it needs much more than glue but then again a superb piece might merit a deluxe restore.

Chancay culture of central Peru, dates to roughly 1100-1450 AD.

How were they related to the Inca?

My wife and I were going to Machu Pichu. Because our flight left Little Rock late, we missed the connection in O'Hare, which then turned into a chain reaction of missing connections which would have resulted in us getting to MP on the day we were to have left it. Sitting in the Chicago airport, WE HAD TO CANCEL THE ENTIRE (*!_)*($)_!@)($ TRIP. My wife was in tears.

Beautiful piece.

One thing I've noticed on Peruvian and Chilean desert pieces is that the paint has a nasty habit of flaking away from breaks with any seasonal change in humidity (especially any areas with paint over paint like the face, arms, etc.) If you fill in the cracks with plaster you can carry the paint just up over the break. Personally I just glue them and then make a little duco/acetone mixture and very finely paint the cracks to seal them.

Good advice there. I'll keep an eye on the cracks- I already plastered them and painted, maybe I'll seal them up like you suggested. So far I haven't really had too many problems like that with any of my pieces except for one BIG mayan cylinder vase I have where the paint was flaky.
