Republic of Texas Collection
My Republic Collection! Some currency, one bill signed by Sam Houston! A pay stub from an Alamo defender, an original newspaper clipping about Jim Bowie( how his ordeal on Natchez on the Trace led to his illness at the Alamo), Comanche peace medal given by the Republic to help insure peace( which didn't happen), and hand drawn map of the republic and various facts associated with it!!!!!

Thank you sir, I'm very proud of this collection and I always keep a lookout for Authethic Republic things! Sorry about the bad pics but IPhone is all I had at the moment! I've been a history freak since I was little and I guess the arrowhead collecting fell into place too! I found a pistol for sale from the Republic era but have not acquired it yet cause the economy is not too beuno! Just like artifacts there are many fakes out there so the market can be tough for true Republic items! But Texas is the greatest State and the Republic was a very interesting time, so hope y'all enjoy!

Nice Collection!!
Well I'm not from Texas.....but I've collected CW and earlier buttons for decades and here's a couple from my collection. I got interested in Republic of Texas buttons because Terry's Texas Rangers were in my area during the Civil War and Republic buttons have been found in their encampments as they would have worn anything that reflected their home state. I purchased/traded for these buttons about 10 years ago and had to sell and trade a lot of primo Confederate buttons to afford the two. They both came from estates of officers. Officers buttons had a higher probability of being passed down through the generations than enlisted men's. BTW, I've dug at least one example of nearly all the Confederate state's buttons but never a Republic of Texas or a CW period state of Texas. My knowlege of early buttons FAR exceeds my knowledge of Indian artifacts as I have bought/sold/traded and authenticated them for decades. Mercifully, the artifakers have pretty much stayed out of buttons. Too much die work I would suppose. Texas Navy: ![]() Another, not as rare but far from common:

Moots those are great! In fine condition too! Comanche thanks for the kind words homie!
lol paleo J and Indy glad you like em! Moots those exact buttons have been reproduced, I've seen real ones and some damn good fakes! I have found a few for sale but just haven't parted with my money yet! If I found some more I would hope you would take a look at them for me? Good show and I can't afford to collect Civil War stuff stuff but love to see them! I've been fortunate to have seen the best Civil War collection growing up, my best friends father had the collection! I've seen him get curios, little picture lockets, and open em for the first time since the War and had amazing stuff behind the pictures! Amazing, old coins, pay stubs, letters, etc. ! Cool stuff to see growin up! Thanks fellas!

I'd be glad to check any button out for you that comes your way. The fakes that I've seen weren't made to pass as the real deal but were button sets for collectors -- there's a good bit of variation in them. Waterbury has put out some pretty decent stuff since the 60's but not to intentionally deceive folks. Mine were looked at by two of the top button experts in the solar system...although I had no doubts. I'll let you know if I run across a deal. If you want a "dug" button they bring a lot less than pristine non-dug (used to be the other way around) and there are some great looking examples that come on the market.
