I have grown up with Rattlesnakes my entire life but I had no idea they grew that big. They look more like Anacondas with rattles.

I used to catch snakes when I was a kid. I never have been one to kill them. More accurately, I caught any creature that got too close to me. I had snakes, turtles, frogs, salamanders, squirrels, flying squirrels, bats, rabbits,......
My first big snake was a 4.5 ft speckled king snake. I was about 10 and we were at a family reunion in AR. I really wanted to take that snake home, and I begged my mom to let me put it in the car. I crammed it in a little milk carton, and only showed her the milk carton and said 'see it can't get out of here'. When we got home and I dumped it out in a cage where she could see how big it was I thought she was going to kill me. She said - you mean I rode all the way home with THAT!

The biggest I ever caught was a 7.5 ft mud snake I grabbed while we were canoeing the Dorcheat Bayou. My hand wouldn't close around it. Very docile snakes. I showed it to the gang and let him go.

I had a mudsnake for a pet for about a year. Caught him crossing the road, and took him home.Easily the most docile snake i have ever seen.I turned him loose in the lake i grew up on, Banks lake in Lanier county Georgia at a Paleo site i reported to the local archeologist at VSU. He published a report on it and gave it a site# and never mentioned that an avocational had been involved in finding it even though he referenced a couple Clovis points in my collection as an indication of the age of the site .A not uncommon occurence, from what i understand.
