That is way cool. I've never done it, but I am sure detecting is as addictive as hunting flint.

A few years back, an acquaintance of mine and I were talking and he said he had spotted an area he wanted to detect. Because of an old Mimosa tree he felt certain it was an old homestead site.

Sure enough, the next time I ran into him he told me he found a mason jar full of silver coins. For whatever reason he decided to sell the cache. He sold it for 19k to a local jeweler.

Very Cool!!..I don't even want to start Detecting as I know it would get out of control for me fast...I have very little time or room for another "out of hand" Hobby

Any way you look at it, it's all about finding and preserving the past.

What would it cost to get a good detector, and would it be safe to buy something like that used? It's something I've been interested in for a long time.

Very cool. That would be awesome to find something like that. I used to collect coins and had most of those a long time ago, but I sold all my silver when the price was up real high and traded the rest for a artifact collection that had close to 600 pieces in it.
