Any mineral folks out there? This, along with many others were found at a copper mining operation. I think it a type of poly-sided pyrite, but don't know what it's called fer shure. Anyone?
Thanks, Dave

The only info I can find, is that it is just one of many different kinds of pyrite. Although quite stunning to look at, it is pretty worthless.

Galena is a combination of lead and silver. This is pyrite.

You could take it to the Hutchings Museum in Lehi and compare it to the minerals there. There's so many different minerals I don't know how anyone can tell them all apart.

Good idea, Floyd. I like to go there and look at all the Indian stuff too. I hear there is more in the basement, if they will let you look. Old man Hutchings did alot of digging back in the day.

Do you know if Mr. Hutchings is still alive? I was at the museum about ten years ago looking at the Indian artifacts. Mr. Hutchings came by and introduced himself and a nice conversation followed. He was a really nice guy with a lot of knowledge. He was telling about some of his old digs. But shortly after someone at the museum wanted to meet Mr. Hutchings so our conversation was cut short. I never ran into him again on other visits to his museum.
