An academic article on the potential use of these "hand axes" as phallic symbols, more or less, is here.

Lucky day at the rock shop

My recent purchase of a early Acheulean Trihedral pick and hand axe at a local rock shop (and I never buy artifacts) was my introduction to this earliest period of multi-chipped artifacts. They were misidentified as Neanderthal and were marked as having originated from Morocco. I paid the sum of 105 dollars for both and quickly contacted Duncan Caldwell who assured me that they were indeed authentic and the Trihedral was exceptional. The dating from North Africa seems secure due to the nature of repeated deposition of volcanic ash which sandwiches layers in datable strata. The dates from Africa seem to predate European material by several hundred thousand years which appears to me to be a rather long period of time since I am most familiar with American artifacts which seem to have changed every few hundred years or less.

Valsequillo, a site in Mexico has been dated to greater than 200,000 years by at least five different methods, including volcanic tephrology done on sediments found in layers containing artifacts. Mainstream science rejects the findings, yet credits this paper based on one dating method AND infers that tools found not feet, or meters, or even tens of meters from the site are of the same age, as long as it backs up their theories? Context be damned as long as it fits their pre-concieved paradigm.Looks like the same bull**** as the mythical "Ice Free Corridor" the Clovis occupation of the America's was based on to me.
