I've seen pictures of what were claimed to be Mayan knives with a long base but have no real clue myself. Sometimes its easy to be fooled when the only things we have to compare to are compleetly out of regional context. The history in that area is as long and certainly as complex as whet we see here. I would try to contact the VanKirks as they have extensive knowledge in Chiapis and Guatemala and seem like good people. By the way I have a good friend here whos family owns a large farm on the Usumacinta River in Chaipis with ruins never cut out of the jungle or explored and a standing invitation to visit and spend time there. The Maya who live on the property occasionaly dig up and sell artifacts which Raul's family turn a blindeye to for sake of maintaining good relations.
