General leather and crafts

Afternoon,

Not sure this is the place for this, but since I dont have the patience for Knapping I turn my efforts to a more forgiving venue. Love to do the beading and leatherwork...also some rattles and such. Last Christmas the weather was too bad to do much relic hunting so I busied myself making some stuff. Some of it wasnt too shabby. Sewing seed beeds on leather is the pits though...I have the utmost respect for those who do projects that bead large areas such as jackets and cuffs.

Beautiful work,do you use Camel bone for the Plains choker beads?
Have you ever done any Wampum belts?

I've also been looking to buy a leather fringe satchel type bag to use for keeping arrowheads in when I'm hunting, do you make anything like that?

Nice Atlantis, I really like the necklaces with the long bone tube bead! You do any trading with that stuff?

Morning,

Thanks for the comments. Finally back at work and we are getting some much needed rain in my area. The bone I use is hairpipe of various sizes. It can be dyed any color you want to match a project and polishes up nicely. It comes in sizes from half inch to 5 inches and varies in quality so you have to be careful as to your sources.

I have never worked with wampum, though see the materials for sale in my craft magazines. I started out just making dream catchers and such because finished products of any quality were very expensive at powwows and stores. I can make most anything, but am still learning. I did make a buffalo horn breastplate with cobalt blue beads several years back...that thing looked great when the light shown through it.

I could probably make a fringed bag for you if you give me some idea of what you want. Bear in mind I am not in strictly speaking in the business right now, I just do this "for fun"....lol You know how that goes, but you will never find a plastic bead in anything I do.

I should be out picking up points right now.

You still putting together those pots Cannonman??

OK, We, my son and his brother and I decided we're going to try it ourselves, just ordered some materials and found some plans online, should be pretty fun.

Afternoon,

That sounds great. Should provide you with some quality tiime and its not impossible to do..just takes patience. Softer leather is easier to work with. Let me see what you come up with when you are finished.

Yeah, we're looking forward to it, ordered some leather books from the library and then from here:

Crazy Crow Trading Post - UPS & FedEx Online Package Tracking

We're getting some synthetic sinew, an awl and leather needles, plus I already had a soft deerskin so we should be good to go.

the pattern is for an Apache handbag with string.

We're each going to make one and we'll post them when we're done...

Oh also ordered a woodburner tool to do some patterns on the leather
