Knife in Progress

Today's little 4 hour project was turning an piece of white-tailed deer antler into a small bone handle. Yes... 4 hours with the use of modern tools (hacksaw, grinding wheel, dremel, file, sandpaper). Imagine how long it would have took without modern tools.

The groove for the stone blade is just under 1/2 cm.

Weather permitting, I may try to gather some dried pine sap tomorrow and make a batch of pitch (and if I can find some rabbit poo in a foot of snow )

The actual point that is going to go into this thing? Well, I want to learn to knap, but for now I am going to post in Classifieds and see if any skilled knapper is interested. I am figuring a side notched piece like a "Meadowood" at 6 cm long, distance between the notches 2 cm, and just under 1/2 cm thick. Optimally made out of Upper Mercer. I will cross link once the classified is up.

Will post more pics when there is more progress.

EDIT: Hmmmm... on second thought imma' knap it myself . Probably just an elongated un-notched triangle... If I can't get one below 1/2 cm in thickness, i'll have to commission someone.

Here are some knives that have sold on EBAY in the past. Prices were around $200-$300.
