Sky Coyote by Kage Baker

Just wondered if anyone else had read this book. Its part of a larger science fiction series, but as a stand alone book I would call it more historical fiction, set in pre-European contact California. The native characters are a hoot, and its one of my favorites to reflect back on when I sit and wonder what it was like when . . .

I have never seen or read about any sky coyotes but I did have a close encounter with a ground coyote. Welcome to the forum.

He doesn't look like he's made up his mind if he wants to be friendly or not. Kinda close too! Never been that close before.

it looks really really close. I never get within 200 feet of them myself before they lope off. Thanks for the welcome.

He was in a government trap, he couldn't run off. I've had people get upset because I didn't let the poor thing go. I tell them first of all I like having two hands with eight fingers and two thumbs. And secondly it's a federal offense to mess with those traps. I just used the opportunity to get some pics.

Hi Jen, welcome to the forum! Never read that book, but I love the sound of coyotees yipping at me when I'm out camping. Had em come right near the camp, a time or two. One time, when my dog was young, they followed as around for part of a day yipping at us...don't know why, but have heard they will gang up on a dog, if there is a chance. Lucky for me and my dog, I had my trusty walking stick, which will double for a coyote-whacker. But, alas, I didn't have to use it.
