A friend of mine recently took a Harley trip up through Alaska. He sent me these pics from a factory museum of Ulu knives.

Those are nice, especially the long blade in the first pic.
The older ones are super thin slate but they did the job. Handles were bone, walrus ivory or wood. they do look like boatstones from a distance. |

there are no trees on St Lawrence Island so "wood" means driftwood.
