This is a great site! I was just doing some preliminary perusing and found a funny saying:
An expert is sometimes only an "ex-spurt under pressure". I like that. Anyway, I couldn't immediately find anything on Native American archery, but the rest of the world, especially the Asian cultures, are represented. Those dang Koreans are good! (think Olympic Gold) Thanks for the link. |

That is a beautiful bow. I have a book, titled "Survival Skills of Native California", by Paul D. Campbell. It contains a wealth of info on bow construction by different California tribes. I highly recommend it. The author actually constructs most of the bows, arrows, baskets, nets, wikiups etc., that he writes about. Lots of history, and a working guideline for each of the utility items he discusses. Atlatl's, bows, darts, arrows are discussed. He only studied California tribes, but I am sure the technologies were similar across the continient. If anyone has an interest in this area, this book is great!
I would like to know more about the Indian Nation's who dominated the horse/buffalo hunting styles. I could goggle this, but perhaps one of our members has knowledge of a good book or site? I think North Americans came late in the game as far as archery. But the Native Americans sure advanced it to its full potential in a very short time. Quite remarkable if you think about it. |
