Who made arrowheads???

Question....
Do you think in any particular prehistoric group arrowheads or dart tips were made by a few designated craftsmen or did all hunters make their own?
What are you opinions and why? I'm curious if there is any evidence out there.

maybe the finer points were made by true knappers when they had time and the more crudely out of whack ones were hurried in the field by hunters or during battle.....could explain why some of the points are kind of screwy looking...lol

I think flint knapping was a skill all aborigines had to know, but I think there were probably two or three in each tribe who specialized in it and traded on their talent.

I agree with Lewis. You needed certain skills to survive, flint knapping was definitely one of those skills.

Interesting perspectives.
I always though all hunters made their own points. I've wandered about the consistency in styles and sizes though like they were all made by a relatively small number of individuals though.
Thanks.

what i think is really neat is the range in which you can find points that come from the same type....they may have different names....but the types are obviously related...was it because they were related bands of amerinds hundreds of miles apart?

I do also fell that Indians certainly made there own points.Thinking maybe they had a preference to how the heads was made in general

Is this deja vu? Seems like this was just discussed a few weeks ago. Oh well, I think the whole family was involved - anyone who could, did.

Yeah I thought we had this discussion a while back. I was just having a conversation more recently with someone on the subject where it applied to a specific subject. Mostly just thinking out loud. Thanks for all the replies.
