Levallois in Central North America???
Several folks have posted comments on Levalloisian sites and artifacts being found around the Central US. I think one is supposed to be in Illinois.
Here is my argument against it. The archaeological record for the Americas is extremely thin relative to the Old World. If you believe the Levallois technology was used in Illinois several tens of thousands of years prior to Clovis, you’d have to admit they did not survive. There is very little (I believe zero) evidence for human activity for a long time between the theorized Levallois times and Clovis. If the population was robust and abundant enough to make it all the way to Illinois, they would not have gotten there simply to perish. I disagree with the logic. It must have been an independent, regional, and much later development. Opinions….

I have never heard of such a site here in Illinois. On this whole theory, I am skeptical to say the least. Ray.
