Wood uses
I work with wood quite a bit so it makes me realize just how much we rely on it in our day to day lives. I wonder how much the ancients utilized it? I'm sure they used it for handles of certain things or in structures but what else do you think they used it for?

Deadfall trap triggers, i.e. "Promontory Pegs."

That's awesome! Where were those found? That's like those figure 4 looking traps isn't it?

They are found all over the Great Basin. They were used for thousands of years.
I think your reference to figure 4 traps is correct but I'm not sure of the terminology. |

Hello Mojave,
I have a question. The two wooden objects on the left, do you know how they were used? Also, do you know what type of wood they are made from? And, can you tell us about the ends, and the sidewalls, near the ends? Also, what is the size of the artifacts? The ends of those artifacts look very much like the ends of my horizontal antler punches. And, I have been speculating that a wooden version of the horizontal punch could have been employed, just as the vertical version seems to be quite useful. Anyway, any further information would be appreciated. Thanks, Ben |
