Haven't been able to find any, so made some!
I've been knapping for about 2 years, and recently discovered the obsession of looking for points in situ. Here's some Dacite points I made the other night.

That's some really good work. I've always wanted to take up knapping but I can never find any material to work.

There's several places online - I bet some folks here would even send you some. A box of rocks can be shipped for about 11 bucks in the US as long as it stays under 70 lbs.

I have noticed that many knappers ( I do not knap but my dad is into it pretty heavy ) start out using glass. Just any old glass. It is much much easier to work for the beginner. You just have to rough it up on the edges to to get your flaker to hold. The glass is a lot more slick than most of the other stuff. Also I have seen them use porcelain from broken toilets or whatever. They call it " johnny rock ".
Wiseshanks, I will talk to the old man and see what he has laying around up there. He has a couple buddues who live right next to flint ridge and they quarry it. Last time I was up there he had just bought a rock saw and he was cutting up some beautiful ridge slabs. Remind me if you do not hear anything in the next week or so. Sometimes I forget how bad my memory is !!!

I've also heard 'thunder chert' for used toilet tank porcelain. From having played with both chert/flint and Obsidian(and other lava based materials) - Obsidian/glass is easier to work, but less forgiving. Chert/flint seems harder, but is let prone to explode on you if you slightly miss your platform (something I've had happen with obsidian - I'm not very good ;-)

You live in a knapper's mecca. There's a ton of good quality lithic material in Eastern OK and throughout the Ozarks. Reed Springs, Burlington, Keokuk and Moorefield are just a few of the formations in the general vicinity. Heck, even the lowly Tahlequah chert is knappable. It's comparable to "Johnstone", but you can still beat a point out of it..lol.
