Old gents?
My take is this....The old men who could not travel and hunt effectively probably stayed in camp and knapped points for the young guy's to use who could chase down game. Not all were though, take some bad weather days when no hunting happens and everyone sits around the fire and makes points...ready to go hunting when the weather breaks.

The current picture of Folsom imagines it as being almost continually on the move.
If that were the case, retirees wouldn't have lasted long enough to be making anything. |

I think there were master knappers but I think it was taught to everyone kind of like wood working or any other skill some are incredibly good at it and turn out works of art and others that are marginal and turn out usable but not beautiful works of art.I have found the same types of points one looks like someone knapped a piece of art work and the other looks like it was functional but it was done either in a hurry or just not the skill of the other one.I don't buy into just one knapper for the whole group

Retirees
Maybe...but all of them??? I really dont think they would abandon the elders who taught them everything do you? It was to their mutual benefit to work as a group.

If your whole survival strategy is following a herd of bison, you go where they go.
