Jobo Points from South America (my collection)
As I was looking through some of older posts on here, I noticed Jobo and El Jobo come up a couple of times. My dad worked for Ford when I was younger, and we ended up living about 150 miles from the Jobo site for many years. My father and I both collected back home in Indiana, and we continued collecting while we were there. (My wife and I still have a house there, at least until Chavez decides that we don't.
) Here is part of my collection of Jobo points from a couple of different sites and the surrounding valleys. Most of my collection is still boxed up in Venezuela (the later pictures are pieces still down there.) For the most part these were found within a few miles of the Taima Taima site, the Muaco site, and in the Pedregal Valley. These points have been reliably dated to 13,000 BP, which make them older than any dated Clovis site. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's a box of them: ![]() ![]()

Interesting pieces......some of them strongly resemble Great Basin Hasketts. They are both close to the same age also. Thanks for the pics.

Very nice, it's good to see some pre clovis with substance for a change. Are these point types spears or knives?

I continue to be amazed at what newcomers bring to this forum. Thanks. |

joshuaream, thanks so much. You could have told me that these were from Alaska and if they were black, I would have believed it. The points, bifaces and size variation are identical to the Mesa/Sluiceway stuff from the North Slope.
