Celts and Assemblages
I was introduced to this hobby because of my very first find... A broken celt.
Here is a good hands on tutorial on how celts were manufactured: How to make a stone axe We all sooner or later become VERY familiar with our hunting grounds. You begin to gain a sense of what should be there and what shouldn't be there. Sometimes I will bring home rocks that just have a natural beauty to them like the ones shown here. While making a third attempt at creek hunting this summer, I found a large brown pumice slab partially submerged in a slow narrow part of the creek. I have known this area for 35 years and have never found pumice, so I brought it home in my backpack. It took a few months to figure out that it was potentially more than just an "out of place" oddity. I am fairly certain it was utilized in the making of a celt. Finally, a rock that SHOULD be found in the water! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
