My favorite paleo piece
This is the piece in my profile picture, and I thought I'd show it to you all while I had that frame open.
This is my best example of a Fell's Cave point aka Magellanic Fishtail aka El Inga Fishtail aka Stemmed Fishtail. It's a cluster of late paleo relics found from the very southern tip of South America all the way up into Belize (or Florida if you think it's a bull tongue simpson.) They have heavily ground bases, very light fluting that really just pealed the surface a bit, and are quite thin. Here is a link to a site that details a lot about the type site. The material at the type site is a cource basalt, luckily these guys had something better to work with. The type site is about 6,000 miles and change south of Dallas, and this piece was found about 2,400 miles south east of Dallas. Fell's Cave (9000–8000 B.C.) | Thematic Essay | Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History | The Metropolitan Museum of Art This piece should have been a personal find, but I took a guy with me to visit a paleo site I've hunted hundreds of times. While I was parking the car under a tree and topping off my water bottle he started walking over to the site, and found this piece recently uncovered by a wind storm. It was right in the path to the site and there is no way I would have missed it. He called me over and I got to see it insitu and be the first one to pick it up, but he promptly claimed his property. The knob doesn't even like rocks, but he knew there was no way I wasn't going to buy the piece. Now he visits the site once a month, and has the site picked clean. He no longer gets invited to my sites, and has had his tires popped a couple of times by well meaning locals that I've know for years. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Aw Maeon! Does look like a Bulltongue Simpson but different flaking. Super nice "deck" (sideview platform)!

I have wondered about your avatar for some time. I can see why it is your favorite, it is an amazing piece! I think just about every one who has hunted for any length of time has had this happen with taking people.

That is a beautiful artifact! Has it had any resharpening, that is to say, what stage would this be in? The steep edge re-touching on classic paleo artifacts is awesome.

Great artifact & a crying shame your guest had to act like that. No good deed goes unrewarded and no tresspass unavenged, his day will surely come around.
