3-29-11 Drilled Wing Bannerstone

Went and hunted the field next to where I found the drill today. Not even 5mins in the field I found a drilled broken wing to a bannerstone. Looks like it was broken in ancient times and they tried to salvage it. Rick found a celt and a nice side notch point. I ended up finding a couple brokes and a lil white bird point. The last pic is my haul for the day.

John, does the broken edge show any signs of grinding or polishing and are there any tally marks or etchings on it anywhere?

The reason I ask is the placement of the drill hole makes me think it might have been used as a pendant after it was broken.

Killer find though either way. Congrats John!!!

Thx for the replies..Steve there is slight grinding on the broken area and after I cleaned it up I couldn't find any tally marks. I looked at Bennetts bannerstone book a lil bit ago and there where a few pictured that looked similar. Either way I'm still pretty stoked about finding it. I'll try taking some better pics with the camera and post them later.

I think Rick is going to start charging me a finders fee since he gave me a new flipping/walking stick a cpl weeks ago and it's brought nothing but good luck! Thx buddy!

No finders fee charge John, just glad to see you finding some good pieces. I enjoy hunting with you and witnessing your finds.

Wow Guys.... Lou's right, you guys are definitely on fire !!! Maybe you've got something John about the new walking stick...It may be bringing you lots of Karma ! You wouldve thought it would have been the other way around...LOL. I've been out a couple of times and have been finding a few brokes and one pretty nice pipe. I'll post some pics as soon as I get "my" computer back up.....maybe early next week.

Keep on finding and posting guys....this job is killing me....at least my time....LOL
